In the late 19th and 20th centuries, pattern shops across the region built the wooden “masters” that made everything from pump housings and turbine blades to brackets for bridges and rail.
A good pattern was equal parts engineering and craft: shrink allowances cut in by hand, fillets added for flow, core prints placed to form internal passages. As production shifted many of those artifacts were discarded or forgotten. Patterns of Meaning rescued these tools, inviting contemporary artists, designers, and fabricators to tell the stories of the objects they created. Join us Sunday, 12:30–4:30 pm for light refreshments and conversation among peers. Open to all registered ICI guests. To register, email Barbara Tiseo at [email protected]. |
